Learning how to ignore things is one of the greatest paths to inner harmony and peace.
Occasional fasting has been proven to help our body detox and refresh. Fasting has been part of Indian culture for ages.
But today, I am going to talk to you about a different type of fasting. One that is for your mind, rather than your body.
In his book, The 4 hour workweek, author Tim Ferris recommends we all try a one-week media fast –
No newspapers, gossip magazines, or non-music radio. Music is permitted at all times
No news websites whatsoever. If there is any important information – it will find its way to you.
No television at all, except for one hour of pleasure viewing each evening (but no watching news)
No web surfing at the desk unless it is necessary to complete a work task for that day. Necessary means necessary, not nice to have.
No YouTube, WhatsApp Groups that are full of forwards, Instagram, Facebook, and other social media.
What is allowed – music, books, movies
It may sound challenging, but as someone who has tried it, I can say that it’s not as difficult as it seems.
At the end of the fasting, if you want to go back to the 15,000-calorie potato chip information diet afterward, fine, but beginning tomorrow, for at least 5 full days, try the media-fast.
Let me know how it feels.
Have a great day!
